On the Trail of African-Americans in 20th Century Denmark

Teaching and Researching Abroad: On the Trail of African-Americans in 20th Century Denmark

5-7 p.m., Thursday, November 16

Madison Public Library-Central Library

Walking through a cemetery in Copenhagen in 2013, Dr. Ethelene Whitmire noticed a name that seemed out of place. Hear about her surprising discovery and the basis for her latest line of research on the African-American diaspora in Denmark, including what led them there and some of their experiences and achievements abroad.

Whitmire, professor at the Information School at UW-Madison, was granted a Fulbright for her work. In addition to presenting her research findings, she will be available to answer questions about her process obtaining grants and fellowships, her research process in the United States and abroad, and what it was like to teach in a foreign country.

Sponsored by the Peace Corps at UW-Madison, along with cosponsors Scan|Design Fellowship Program, Wisconsin Fulbright Association, and Willy Street Co-op.
